Union of South-East Region Local Authorities

The Union of South-East Region Local Authorities was founded in 2008 by the municipal authorities of the towns of Burgas, Stara Zagora, Yambol and Sliven. The union is working to strengthen the role of local authorities in Bulgaria and help them provide efficient governance strategies. The combined efforts of the four largest municipalities in the region are aimed at providing sustained socio-economic and ecological development opportunities to the south-eastern region.
The main goal of the union is to represent the municipalities in the south-eastern region and defend their common interests, as well as to coordinate their efforts in the creation of strategies, plans and programs. The union also strives to aid the local authorities in the creation of initiatives for sustained socio-economic and ecological development of the region. The union also provides help for the utilization of European Union funds and other donor programs targeted at promoting the regional development. The union increases the efficiency and transparency of the municipal authorities’ decision making process through the inclusion of citizens in the local self-governance. We also facilitate the contact and cooperation with similar organizations in the country and abroad. We maintain our own office in Brussels in order to better represent the interests of the region among the institutions of the European Union.
